Oil Tester

can someone help me with car problems.?

my car is kinda idling hard when it drives. it also has smoke which smells like oil and fluid is vaporized in it. i tried to do a compression test but the darn tester keeps screwing up. I've had friends who've told me it's the pvc valve, to it's a broken or cracked head. can anyone help. it drives fine. but i keep having this problem where the thermostat shits could that be in it somehow.

Given the symptoms it sounds like your idle quality is poor because your car is burning oil A compression test will give you an idea how well your valves sit and the condition of your piston rings. But these to sealing locations are not the only source of engine oil getting into the combustion chambers. So forget the compression test for now. If the color of the exhaust stream is bluish your engine is burning oil. If it is more of a white color you have coolant that is leaking internally and getting burned with fuel. Both can cause rough idle. The burnt oil smell could also be due to an external leak where oil is dripping onto hot engine components and most likely the exhaust.

I would suggest you re-post your question with more information so you can get informed responses. Tell people what kind of car, engine, and how many miles on it. There are a lot of very experience folk that might be so familiar with your particular vehicle and engine combination they could tell you where to look first. No sense in getting too worried about a cracked head or broken piston rings; and doing compression or leak-down tests unnecessarily if the problem could be as simple as a PCV valve or cracked vacuum hose. (GM and ASE certified Master Technician 10yrs, Test Engineer 2yrs.)
