Fading time for a surgical scar on the face?

I was told by my doctor that it takes a scar of a full 1 year for them in mature.However, after having stitches in my face then have a mole removed the scar is still slighlty red. The scar is the improvement in a snails pace in the face but was wondering if it leads to improvement or it will stop maturing? Anyone similar experiences?

I am a big cut on my arm had to have stiched. 1 1 / 2 years later all the left is a lighter shade of skin and some marks where the stiches were. Depending on how deep the cutting it could be even lighter then mine, and covers up easly. Scaring will take a long time to heal, be pacient.
